Renter-Friendly Options
Tension rods wedge inside the window recess with no fixings at all, and work well for lightweight sheers. Adhesive brackets rated for the weight of your curtain can hold a real rod or lightweight track, and come off cleanly without marking the wall when removed correctly. For heavier blackout curtains, an adhesive-mounted track is usually a better bet than a tension rod, which can bow under weight over time.
What to Avoid
Skip the cheapest adhesive hooks for anything heavier than a sheer panel - they're rated for light decor, not the ongoing pull of daily curtain use. Also check with your landlord before using any adhesive product on painted walls, since some paints react badly to strong adhesives.
